Lost in Thoughts...

Pushkar, Nov'06
Rajasthan

OFT I had heard of Lucy Gray:
And, when I crossed the wild,
I chanced to see at break of day
The solitary child.

No mate, no comrade Lucy knew;
She dwelt on a wide moor,
--The sweetest thing that ever grew
Beside a human door!

You yet may spy the fawn at play,
The hare upon the green;
But the sweet face of Lucy Gray
Will never more be seen..

Just a man and his will to survive
So many times,
it happened too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive...

Bakkarthach Camp- Panorama

Beaskund-Bakkarthach, June 2006.
Nikon D50

Today as I complete five years of my professional life (and five years @ Adobe), I dedicate this photograph to this wonderful thing called Photoshop :). The panorama was created by stitching four photographs (all shot at same exposure) using Photomerge in Photoshop CS2. Though the stitched photo does have some flaws but it's still far far better than I expected it to be.

Five years, I still can't believe it's five loong years since I landed in this place, the longest I have been at a place. And lot has transpired in these years, a lot...

symphony in yellow...

Beaskund June 2006.

An omnibus across the bridge
Crawls like a yellow butterfly
And, here and there, a passer-by
Shows like a little restless midge.

Big barges full of yellow hay
Are moored against the shadowy wharf,
And, like a yellow silken scarf,
The thick fog hangs along the quay.

The yellow leaves begin to fade
And flutter from the Temple elms,
And at my feet the pale green Thames
Lies like a rod of rippled jade.

On the way to Bakkarthach

The dog kept us company for the trek from Dundi to Bakkarthach. It used to go for a short nap every twenty minutes or so. It was while one of those naps that I woke it up and clicked this shot.

the much wished for star trail...

Bakkarthach, June 2006
12:30 am till 2am!

It was freezing cold outside at 2 am in the morning but somehow managed to get my camera on a tripod for an hour and a half exposure to get this much wished star trail!

We had planned three nights at Bakkarthach to get the star trails but the weather didn't seem to be with us (atleast in the first few days). The skies got clear one fine night though it didn't look like when I went to sleep at 9 pm. Thanks to Kunal, Vibhor and Drupad who woke me up at midnight when the skies cleared up.

I would cherish this shot for years to come! [:)]

a prayer for myself...

Noida Flower Show, Nikon D50, 105mm Macro
As imagemaker one needs to experience life, be ready to learn from the world around us and be willing to take risks. As I read somewhere making art entails asking questions, challenging perceptions and start 'seeing' the things. I pray for myself that I be able to visualise and to be able to create images which say, express all that I have inside, all that which inspite of how much hard I try I haven't been able to put into words. And along comes the joy, the peace... Ameen!

bliss!

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darken'd ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits...

India for the non-Indians...

One fine Morning, April, 2006, Phool Mandi, New Delhi
Nikon D50. 70-300mm G Nikkor

Finally a post after almost a month. Was busy with stuff but still blame it on my laziness... If you wish to do something you will always find time one way or the other...

I love the colors, textures, expressions this facet of India has to offer.

I am not trying to be pedantic with the title, but this is how I think how many (not all) foreigners still perceive what India is - land of sadhu's, snake charmers etcetc... Infact this guy was getting dressed up for some shoot . I would say that's faking if you are not shooting what reality is.

This sandstone citadel has seen so much happening- the rise and fall of so many empires, number of prime ministers addressing the nation, so many tourists admiring its beauty and its size. The monument has imbibed all and stands still, seeing another evening pass by.

on art...

"Some of us seem to be blessed with the ability to see things that many never notice, some of us also have the manual skill needed to use a brush, a pencil, a knife or chisel, and transfer the vision into concrete form, in stone, bronze, wood, or on paper or canvas, but it all begins with the gift of seeing things not often noticed, and the desire to record, and share. If you can make photographic images that transcend distance and time, and bring others to the where and when of that image, I believe you are on the way to artistry. The vision is more important than your instrument. Move slowly, try to see all, and miss little, and keep records to share with those who do not see, and your efforts will be an artform. Art is never more than vision shared."
